whats is a still life?

a still life image is a simple display of objects set up to create a powerful piece that within can tell a story. they can be made up of house hold objects or so much as potted plants.


this image for example is very powerful with all the texture and the added detail in using the rope to hole the asparagus together. definitely set up to be photographed this way the only thing i find that could slightly take away from this image is the lighting. when looking at this image i would think it to be a collected bunch of veggies for a small dinner put together by a small town country woman.

Birth: Oct. 30^th 1954 Lima, Peru (60 yrs old.)

Background: born into a catholic family with an Irish mother and Italian father. Mario spent his teenage years in Brazil before studying at Universidad del Pacifico, the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru and the University of San Diego. Moving to London in 1976; where he first began to shoot photos with john Vicker and Paul Nugent

 

He has now worked over 35 years as a photographer shooting for Vanity Fair and Vogue UK, Mario Testino has shot Madonna as well as Versace among many other famous celebrities.  However, he is most famous for his work with

Diana Princess of Wales in 1997 saying it was “one of my greatest experiences in my life”.

Mario Testino’s style is mostly based on his summers in Brazil. Finding inspiration and creating a unique and personal photographic language through trying to recreate his youth

He catches their energy in the moment. He brings them to life with exotic colors and clothes. Mario has made many designers famous through his work as well. He displays their clothes in a very sensual way as he describes. Without having them appear to be overly masculine or feminine.
